Inner Core / Outer Space takes the form of a lab coat, complete with pen and notepad, personifying the physicists expanding our knowledge of planets and space. The front presents two interpretive planetary science diagrams: one outlines the layers a planet may contain, while the second shows a simplified planetary magnetic field. The buttons are hand-painted to represent Mercury, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune. On the back is an artistic interpretation of outer space and its myriad bodies, with hand stitching suggesting inner layers or planetary forces.

This artwork was created for the Studio Art Quilts (SAQA) touring show Fierce Planets, which is on show at ten different art museums around the United States over three years.
