Piece by Piece

exploring transformation

Piece by Piece is a textile-inspired series of hanging panels crafted from fragments of used paper coffee filters. At its heart, the series is about transformation—of material, meaning, and perception. Delicately patterned with combinations of ink, natural dye, indigo, tea, and cyanotype, the filters are sewn into quilt-like compositions. Though the paper mimics the softness, movement, and familiarity of cloth, it remains fragile and impractical, made from materials we use and discard every day. By shifting waste into careful, time-intensive forms, the work explores how materials can change in meaning and value, inviting viewers to reconsider what they consume, what they throw away, and what they choose to preserve.
