Piece by Piece

Using discarded materials, I created these sewn artworks that reflect my interest in domesticity and the waste produced in our daily lives. This series was inspired by quilt patterns and constructed from fragments of used paper coffee filters, items used and discarded every day without thought. Patterned with ink, natural dyes, and cyanotype, the fragments are stitched into forms that echo traditional quilts pieced from worn clothing and fabric scraps. These works transform everyday remnants into forms that suggest comfort, yet the paper only mimics the softness and familiarity of cloth. These "quilts" are fragile and impractical, suggesting warmth while unable to provide it. By shifting waste into careful, time-intensive forms, the work explores how materials can change in meaning and value, inviting viewers to take a second look at what they consume and what they throw away.
