Traces
what's left behind
The Traces series is inspired by Toronto’s Leslie Street Spit, a finger of land that juts into Lake Ontario, surrounded by water and sky. Built with construction rubble, and then reclaimed by nature, the Spit initially presents visitors with a vibrant and seemingly natural landscape. Then evidence of its creation (concrete, rebar, shards of brick) pokes through in spots and pierces the illusion, creating glimpses of a post-apocalyptic terrain.
This work explores this intersection between the Spit’s past and present, reflecting on both the incongruities and the interconnection that make The Spit such an otherworldly place.
