Jennifer Coghill is a Toronto (T’Karonto) mixed-media fiber artist whose practice begins with reuse and material transformation. Using discarded and transient materials, she creates sewn artworks that reflect the routines, habits, and objects of everyday life.
Inspired by domestic textile traditions, her recent artworks reference patchwork quilts and worn blankets, familiar objects associated with warmth, comfort, and care. Reconstructed using discarded materials such as used coffee filters and tea bags, they may mimic the softness, drape, and familiarity of cloth, yet remain fragile and impractical. They evoke the impression of warmth and comfort while unable to provide it.
Through the careful, time-intensive process of transforming discarded materials, Coghill explores how materials can shift in meaning and value while giving shape to ideas around home, care, and domestic life.
