About the Artist

who I am

Jennifer Coghill is a Toronto/T’Karonto-based mixed-media fiber and textile artist and a graduate of the Ontario College of Art (AOCA) in graphic design. She looks for beauty in the everyday and the overlooked, while calling attention to the waste we create.

Coghill's recent body of work, the Coffee Culture series, and her installation Consumed!, started with the creation of Café Curtains for the 2023 DesignTO Festival. She decided to use the waste materials from coffee and tea preparation, choosing these unexpected substrates for their ability to capture the fleeting imprints of daily rituals, moments in time, and the comfort of home. Each used coffee filter, tea bag, coffee package, or burlap sack holds its own story, but when stitched together, they weave a larger narrative about waste, beauty, time, value, and reuse.

In creating beauty and function from detritus, Coghill challenges traditional narratives and asks us to think about our approach to consumption and waste.
