About the Artist

an introduction

Jennifer Coghill is a Toronto (T’Karonto) mixed-media fiber and textile artist whose practice centres on reuse and material transformation. A design graduate of the Ontario College of Art, she employs sewing and textile techniques rooted in domestic traditions to create hanging panels that quietly question consumption and disposability.

Often working with previously used and discarded materials, Coghill's recent work transforms used coffee filters, tea bags, and coffee packaging into quilt-like hanging panels using sewing and other textile techniques. Though the works resemble soft textiles, they are fragile and impractical, made from materials never meant to last. By shifting waste into careful, time-intensive forms, she explores how materials can change in meaning and value. What appears familiar at first glance reveals an unexpected origin, inviting viewers to reconsider what they consume, what they throw away, and what they choose to preserve.

Coghill is currently exploring new materials while deepening her focus on transformation and reuse.
