About the Artist

who I am

Jennifer Coghill is a Toronto (T’Karonto) mixed-media fiber and textile artist and a graduate of the Ontario College of Art (AOCA) in graphic design. As an artist, she is drawn to the beauty of impermanence and the quiet poetry of everyday materials. Her practice explores transformation and renewal by looking at how discarded or transient things can become sites of reflection and connection.

Coghill's recent body of work, the Coffee Culture series, and her installation Consumed!, started with the creation of Café Curtains for the 2023 DesignTO Festival, using the waste materials from coffee and tea preparation -- used coffee filters, tea bags, and coffee packaging. She chose these unexpected substrates for their ability to capture the fleeting imprints of daily rituals, moments in time, and the comfort of home. Each fragment holds its own story, but when stitched together, they weave a larger narrative about waste, beauty, time, value, and reuse. In creating beauty and function from detritus, Coghill challenges traditional narratives and asks us to think about our approach to consumption and waste.
