About the Artist

who I am

Jennifer Coghill, a Toronto/T’Karonto mixed-media fiber and textile artist, is a graphic design graduate of the Ontario College of Art (AOCA). She started making textile work during the first pandemic lockdown, originally exploring surface design and hand stitching.

Coghill's recent body of work, the Coffee Culture series, began with Café Curtains for the 2023 Design TO Festival and explores themes of home, ritual, and comfort. Using waste from coffee and tea preparation, these unexpected materials capture the ephemeral imprints of daily rituals, moments in time, and the comfort of home, adding layers of history and life to each artwork.

Inspired by the traditional domestic arts of patchwork and quilting, many works in the series take the form of quilt-like patchwork panels. While these panels evoke the warmth and comfort of home, closer inspection reveals the origins of the materials, creating a striking contrast between their past and present forms. The work challenges conventional notions of beauty and value, asking viewers to reimagine their own rituals of consumption and waste.
